  • Ashton Embry talks about inosine( to raise uric acid level) and no flush niacin, and comments on a "timeline" from 1935 on past research on the links between MS and blood platelets.
  • There is more evidence on the links between sunshine(vitamin d) and cancer rates, both from Oliver Gillie at Health Research Forum and from Associated Press. There is also an opportunity to download Oliver's truly exceptional report "Sunlight Robbery."

  • New recipes include Pan-seared Red Snapper, Butternut Squash Bread, Nutrient-rich Smoothie, Marinated Mushrooms, Creamy Nut Korma, and there are additions to the lists of Recommended Products available from the supermarket shelves in the UK and NZ.

BBD Q&A - June 12th 2005
Anti-Oxidant OPC3 *(See below) is discussed, as are ELISA test results, and the group offer advice on the thorny issue of constipation and MS.

We would draw your attention to, and invite your participation in, an ongoing discussion on OPC3 on the BBD Forum of the MSRC Message Board. Click here - MB-Iosine, Uric Acid, OPC 3

BBD Product Recommendations -Food(US)
I recently discovered a line of delicious salad dressings here in the US. (Well, I can get them in Washington State, anyway.) The brand is Annie's Naturals. The ingredients are ok in most of them, but check the labels. I particularly like the Raspberry and the Shitake Mushroom versions. The Ginger flavor was my favorite, but then I discovered it contains soy sauce, so only try that one at your own risk. They are even available in most regular grocery stores. I'm finding more and more organic items in grocery stores lately, which is great. - Carol

Ask Ashton (Week ending 10th June, 2005)
Brian, - I am told this drug has minimal side effects and can be prescribed off label. A contact with PPMS is having some success with 3 mg of inosine ( to raise uric acid level) as well as those other supplements I sent awhile back (no flush niacin etc) -Ashton

Scientists say Sunshine May Prevent Cancer
A great news article on vitamin D and cancer is below and a short note on RA and intestinal flora is attached. My article is published in JNEM but I am having a problem getting a PDF. Hopefully soon. Ashton

Recipes of the Week (Week ending 6th May, 2005)

This weeks recipe suggestions from members of the BBD Recipe List, known affectionately as The Munch Bunch, are as follows.

Problems with 25(OH)D Testing Procedures
This report, which Ashton describes as "a disturbing article on the vagaries of commercial 25D tests," is hardly good news for a group who set so much store by regular testing of vitamin D levels. Perhaps, in retrospect, given the wealth of supportive evidence now available, the "2000iu summer and 4000iu winter" is a more sensible approach.
