Reported by Mary Boyle Bradley.

I attended the 2nd LDN annual conference in Bethesda, MD on 7th April 2006.

First I would like to thank Susie Sedlock for organizing the event. I love you Susie and thank you. For those of you who have been privileged to meet Suzie .. you know what I mean. Lets move on .. I know many of you are waiting eagerly for info ..

I missed the morning intros as I was placed on the front desk welcoming people. I believe Susie gave a powerful talk remembering her late Father.

Turnout was low .. like less than 50 people in all .. but many LDN experts were present. I wish more people attended.

I missed much of Dr Smith's speak on Crohns Disease .. however .... her bottom line was that LDN works for Crohns Disease. Interestingly ... the LDN effect for Crohns lasted 4 weeks after she stopped giving the drug. Some people did not go back to taking LDN .... and disease activity stopped. They remained in remission without taking LDN again. Others did relapse so she put them back on it but she was not looking at LDN as a therapy for life which amazed me. She studied mice and found better results in the mice with higher doses of LDN .. in people she stuck to the low dose.

Some people took the LDN in the morning because they could not tolerate the sleepless nights but her results still showed that LDN is very effective for treating Crohns. This is very, very, exciting because she will be the first to publish scientific data saying that LDN works. She was an amazing speaker and her work is in a class all of its own. I wanted to get her slide show for exact stats as I didn't have a pen .. but I didn't. She also pointed out that enkepahlin levels did not rise with LDN .. that made her ask the question if LDN is working by increasing endorphins .. she expected enkephalin levels to rise and was shocked that they did not in her study but that is what science is all about she said. A lovely lady. She implied that we could be looking at other mechanisms when it comes to how ldn really works.

Dr J McCandless spoke about autism and how she believes it is directly linked to poisoning our babies with the mercury in the vaccines they receive. If she is given a child aged 3 or under she believes she can have the kid in regular kindergarten without an aide by the time they are 6. She takes the m off wheat and milk among other poisons, uses chelation therapy and detoxes their bodies of mercury. She has started to use LDN as part of her therapy and is very excited with the results. LDN makes a big difference to these kids. She gives it to them in cream form .. pure naltrexone powder mixed with emu oil (emu oil is the secret!) and it goes straight into the system .. she does this because many have absorption issues or don't like the taste ... very interesting. Her 13th grandchild was diagnosed with autism .. hence her interest. Dr McCandless looks amazing .. she is 74 and filled with energy and enthusiasm helping many, many people bond with their kids for the first time ever.

LDN Advocates panel .. A lady spoke about her success with LDN for Chrohns disease. A man spoke about his success with LDN for HIV (on LDN for 16 years now!) Joel read out a testimony from Brenda Powell detailing her success with LDN for her MS, her Mom's breast cancer and possibly her Grandmother's Alzheimer's. Susie spoke about LDN and her success with CFS .. it was powerful to see real people give real testimonies .. Everyone did an excellent job. I also spoke briefly .. I explained Noel continues to thrive on LDN .. his PPMS is still in remission since September 2002. I am not as sure about my Uncle's Parkinson's .. more time is needed to fully determine how effective LDN is for PD .. however my Uncle is on nothing else and when resting does better than when under stress .. so I believe stress reduces the LDN effect. It is difficult when you put your heart and soul into LDN and your Mom calls you to say that her cancer has spread to her bones and you insist she is crazy because she is taking LDN.

There is a vulnerability I would like people to avoid. However Mom is back on LDN having completed conventional therapy and this time is on LDN with lactose filler instead of calcium carbonate because maybe the CC filler made the drug slow release and that is why it failed her the first time. I am proud that my book Up the Creek with a Paddle has touched so many people so deeply .. after the conference I firmly believe it is a very accurate account and I would encourage people to read it because it has helped and educated many people. I am proud of that. I spoke of me on LDN .. I was on 4.5 mg and found it turned me into the energizer bunny. I stopped taking LDN because I was afraid I was going to burn myself out but said that it is a very good drug for all hypochondriacs.

I renewed my script at the conference. It turns out most docs present are on it preventatively .. and so are their families .. the expert minds present suggested I reduce my dose to 3mg and once I hit 45 up it to 4.5mg. I will try that. I also said that I believe no celebrity will listen to us .. I have tried them all .. also, I don't believe there is a conspiracy theory .. the system is set up in such a way that the big drug companies can simply choose not to hear us .. they don't have to open their door to anyone that does not serve their interests .. they are not interested in us. We are still very small. But we are not crazy /.. Dr B has found something worthy of the Nobel Prize .. he has discovered something wonderful that has changed many lives .. I am in touch with over 300 people on LDN .. and it works for a whole spectrum of immune disorders .. many of which don't even have a name. One guy said that Mom's cancer may not repsond to LDN because she was receptor negative .. he said maybe receptor negative does not respond to endorphins .. time will tell.

Then came Dr Phil Boyle. I am proud to say he is my brother and I am not bias but this guy stole the show. He was so passionate about LDN. He cannot believe people's Doctors are reluctant to script the drug because he is getting mind blowing results from using the drug in Ireland. I do believe that Phil is the nicest guy alive .. he is lovelier than lovely and so humble , natural and driven. I really love him. Phil is a fertility doc in Ireland with a 6 month waiting list as it is so he does not need extra work from LDN but he has helped many people get the drug. He tells people to read my book, ask their doc for the drug, and if they have no luck to call him. He firmly believes LDN is clearly linked to endorphin production like Dr Bihari said .. he believes that Dr Jill Smith didn't see that because people were taking the oral contraceptive pill in her study and he believes that would have effected the results. Phil detailed success stories with RA, MS and fertility! Joel was concerned about LDN being effective for something else because our issue is that our credibility suffers because it is effective for so many things! Phil saw that he could bring women's mense cycle and hormone levels into line using LDN and therefore help them achieve pregnancy.

He was using the drug before learning about Dr Bihari from me .. but adopted Bihari's thinking since and is delighted with the results. He is the new poster child for LDN .. Don't miss his talk when it appears on the site .. Ireland is lucky to have him .. We need more Dr Phil Boyle's globally. He said that it is sad that people are not getting the drug because docs are afraid to script it for the wrong reasons. Docs are not afraid of harming their patients .. they are afraid of getting sued. He detailed how dangerous many of the drugs prescribed are and that highlighted how remarkable LDN truly is. It is the most ethical choice for many conditions for the most obvious of reasons .. Phil compared the LDN story to that of Watergate .. he believes it is scandalous that people are being kept sick and even let die for profit. Phil got the whole room pumped!! Phil used to get a kit to measure endorphins but the US company no longer makes these kits .. but he said that it is smart to measure endorphins pre and post LDN ..

And then we had Dr Skip. I have said it before and I will say it again this guy is a riot! I love this guy. I had the privilege of having dinner with Skip and his lovely wife Cyndi and son Adam .. who is gorgeous by the way. Adam and Cyndi filmed and recorded the whole event. Dr Skip proved without a doubt that the CC filler faile dmy Mom. Whether her cancer will respond to LDN or not he does not know for sure but he does know for sure she did not get LDN the first tiem around .. .. he did a study that proved that CC filler makes the drug slow release. He also showed us that there are side effects with LDN but they are minimal in comparison to everything else. Taking LDN is still a no brainer for Dr Skip who told us that he makes money from selling LDN so to be wary of what he says. His studies were difficult to ignore .. this guy knows what he is talking about .. very, very, intelligent man .. out on his own in many ways.

Dr Pat Crowley then showed a documentary he made interviewing Dr Bihari a few years ago. It was beautiful. It was nice to see Dr B in good health. Dr Crowley has about 30 people in Ireland on LDN and is also getting great results. Dr Crowley's movie had 2 patients with MS on LDN saying how they felt like they were given a second chance at life. His documentary captured Dr Biharis thinking well .. endorphins dip and LDN fixes them and people live happily ever after .. There are still questions to be answered and although LDN works for the majority .. it does not work for everyone .. why .. we simply do not know. I was very grateful that Dr Crowley made the trip and shred his passion and knowledge with everyone.

It was a great day for LDN .. a great great day!! So much information, passion and knowledge .. I got to meet many wonderful people ... very special people with whom I will always have a bond. Thank you Susie once again .. a job very well done. thanks also to Joel and Dr Gluck .. great job guys!
