RemedyFind

This is a non-commercial, unbiased, international site that allows individuals and healthcare professionals to rate effectiveness of the different treatments for specific health conditions-including Multiple Sclerosis.

The founder of this page Brett Hodges says..

"I started Remedyfind because for years I've been frustrated by the difficulty in finding unbiased information about which treatments work best for chronic health problems. With limited amounts of time, energy and money available, how is it possible to know which of the multitude of medications, nutritional supplements and complementary or alternative therapies are worth trying?

It's my hope that Remedyfind can serve as a Community where we can begin to get a sense of which remedies seem to work for a great number of us".

The Remedyfind MS Section includes a very comprehensive list of treatments - from the Interferon medications, and other remedies aimed at treating the underlying disease, to treatments for the most common MS Symptoms.

Your ratings of the treatments you have tried (both those that have been helpful and those which haven't) would be immensely helpful to others with MS. Any suggestions on treatments, which haven't been included, would also be appreciated.

Guide4Living
From the site's Editor:

"As it stands at the moment Guide4Living focuses completely on today's most pressing health and medical issues. Issues that have shattered lives, instilled fear, and broken the hearts of loved ones worldwide. It is my aim, with your help, to broaden the reach of Guide4Living to encompass many other unsung issues and afflictions which often have brought despair and hurt to many. "

This site for provides help and support and contacts for a  range of today's diseases and conditions, including Multiple Sclerosis. There is a "Personal Stories" containing some very moving stories.

It is well worth visiting on a continuing basis as it expands.

The Cochrane Collaboration

The Cochrane Collaboration is an international non-profit and independent organisation, dedicated to making up-to-date, accurate information about the effects of healthcare readily available worldwide. It produces and disseminates systematic reviews of healthcare interventions and promotes the search for evidence in the form of clinical trials and other studies of interventions. The Cochrane Collaboration was founded in 1993 and named for the British epidemiologist, Archie Cochrane..

The major product of the Collaboration is the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews which is published quarterly as part of The Cochrane Library.

UK Self Help Group
This is the most comprehensive site for all "Help" Groups in the UK, covering every disease and condition you can think of, as well as many non-medical related help groups.

Expert Patient Programme

Moving from patient to person

If you live with a long-term illness, why not take control by becoming an Expert Patient. The Expert Patients Programme is a self-management course giving people the confidence, skills and knowledge to manage their condition better and be more in control of their lives.

About Expert Patients

What is EPP? The Expert Patients Programme (EPP) is a NHS-based training programme that provides opportunities to people who live with long-term chronic conditions to develop new skills to manage their condition better on a day-to-day basis. Set up in April 2002, it is based on research from the US and UK over the last two decades which shows that people living with chronic illnesses are often in the best position to know what they need in managing their own condition. Provided with the necessary 'self-management' skills, they can make a tangible impact on their disease and quality of life more generally.

The EPP is one among a range of new policies and initiatives to modernise the NHS to emphasise the importance of the patient in the design and delivery of services. Fundamental changes are taking place to empower patients, recognise that patients and professionals each have their own area of knowledge and expertise and need to work together.

This vision for a new patient-centred NHS reflects the fact that the predominant pattern of disease in this country during the second half of the 20th Century and the beginning of the new century is of chronic rather than acute disease. Diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke and arthritis can and do kill - but more often they are a burden that people carry from the middle years of their lives into old age.
