Hi, My name is Andy.  I was born in Watford in the UK back in 1975.  In 1994 I moved to Australia to attend university, it is also the same year my medical problems started with my first kidney stone a week before my nineteenth birthday.

Right now I live in Melbourne with my wife and two young children.  I own an advertising agency in South Melbourne called FreeForm.  Unfortunately, my health problems preclude me from working there full time, but it is a business that I started, and I am proud of and passionate about.

If you want to find me around Melbourne I can normally be found watching the cricket or staring at the sky through my telescope.

    Hi I am Carmel Turner.

I am one of the few lucky MS people to receive AHSCT (Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation with BEAM Conditioning) for Multiple Sclerosis.

I received this treatment in September - November 2010. To date around the world there have been up to 600 people with MS that has received this treatment under controlled studies. Those studies have shown up to 86% of the patients responding to treatment. The treatment resulted in halting all activity of the MS disease for extended periods of time. This enabled those who responded to treatment, to reverse neurological damage caused by the disease.

A similar treatment, to the treatment I received is currently progressing through a Phase III US Goverment FDA trial's which will see this treatment covered under US health insurance in five to ten years. Once this occurs, the treatment I received will become an excepted form of treatment in the US for MS sufferers. It will also hopefully result in Australian Neurologist's acknowledging the white elephant in the room.

George Goss's (Heidelberg University Hospital, Heidelberg, Germany)

There is currently only one scientifically-demonstrated & confirmed treatment for Multiple Sclerosis with enduring curative efficacy: Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT).

This is not a new medical procedure; it has been performed millions of times all around the world since the 1960's for treatment of cancer (now approximately 50,000 times per year) and has been used successfully to cure several types of hematologically-rooted autoimmune disorders since the early 1990's (such as MS, scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and others). It involves chemotherapy so the treatment is both uncomfortable and expensive (most medical insurance will not yet cover it for treatment of an autoimmune disorder until the phase III clinical trial is completed later this decade, or the beginning of the next).

It is not an impossible procedure to endure, as many people do it (including me) and make it through just fine. But this procedure is currently the ONLY treatment that has been scientifically verified to stop the underlying MS disease process, restore normal immune self-tolerance and produce lasting curative symptomatic improvement for MS patients, as it has for me and others. And definitely worth mentioning. . . . probably one of the biggest intangible benefits to stopping the MS disease progression is that this treatment restores a degree of certainty to the future of a person's life that MS often robs us of. To me this has been worth more than gold. Beyond this the only outstanding question of relevance here. . . .

How much is a cure for MS worth to you in terms of time, inconvenience and money? Something that can only be answered by each individual.

    HSCT for MS

A FaceBook forum created by MS Patients treated by Hematopoietic Stem Cell Treatment (HSCT) for MS. Former patients who held a joint desire to have a central meeting point exclusively for MS'ers that have had HSCT treatment or are interested in supporting others in having HSCT as treatment for their MS.

This forum was intended as one of the few forums where it is possible for those interested in treatment, to talk directly to one of the 600 patients in the world that have had the treatment thus far. A treatment that has resulted in progression free remission for 85% of those treated, for periods of greater than 5 years. The forum was to enable those seeking information of first hand experience of navigating through patient selection criteria for the offical FDA phase III trials that are also used at treatment centers offering the treatment currently.

We hope this forum will become the defacto world-wide meeting and central gathering place for MS'ers that have had HSCT to beat their disease and for those that would like to do so without the distraction and confusion of extraneous topics and without anyone trying to sell or market for-profit business interests.

HSCT has been used to successfully treat the following diseases as well as MS.

Rheumatoid Arthritis; Bullous Pemphigus; Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy; Crohn's Disease; Myasthenia Gravis; Peripheral Vascular Disease; Polymyositis; Scleroderma; Sjogren's Syndrome; Vascular Biology

There are over 50 disease of the immunity disease that is treatable by HSCT. If you have any immunity disease come join us. We may not know as much as yourself about your disease but we may have members with the same disease and we maybe able to assist you in finding the research that supports treating your disease.
